TRAMA:
Due ragazze europee, Harriet e Valeria, ed una indiana, Melania, vivono con le loro famiglie sulle rive del Gange. Un giorno arriva tra loro un giovane capitano, John, che ha perduto una gamba in guerra ed in seguito a tale disgrazia è rimasto profondamente scosso. Le tre ragazze s'innamorano, una dopo l'altra, del giovanotto, il quale però è troppo preoccupato dei propri casi per poter ricambiare adeguatamente dei sentimenti d'amore. Cosi' le schermaglie condotte dalle tre ragazze, le arti, le astuzie usate per attirare l'attenzione del capitano e manifestargli il loro cuore, riescono vane. John parte e la tempesta destata dal suo passaggio sulle rive del grande fiume si placherà nel fluire del tempo, che assomiglia al solenne e lento fluire delle acque.
