Trama:
Il film riprende la saga del Pianeta delle scimmie dal punto in cui la terza avventura si era interrotta. Ne è protagonista lo scimpanzé Cesare, il figlio di Cornelius e Zita i quali, precipitati dal futuro negli anni '70, erano andati incontro ad una tragica fine. Venuta meno la protezione di Armando - il generoso proprietario di un circo, che aveva soccorso la coppia inseguita dagli uomini del dottor Haschlein - Cesare deve, adesso, destreggiarsi tra le persecuzioni di un regime semitotalitario che ha posto in schiavitù le scimmie utilizzandole non solo come animali domestici (alla fine del XX secolo un'epidemia ha provocato l'estinzione dei cani e dei gatti) ma anche e soprattutto come forza lavoro in sostituzione degli operai. Venduto al governatore Beck e inorridito dalle umiliazioni inferte alla sua razza, Cesare non lascia trapelare la sua intelligenza e organizza segretamente una rivolta contro gli oppressori...
